FAQ
My playlists are out of date. How to I force TuneSync to refresh the list?
The fastest way to refresh the playlist list is to go to Settings -> Test Connection. Once the test is complete, your playlists should be up to date.
Can I perform a wired sync to an Android 3.x or later device?
TuneSync™ currently does not support a wired sync to a Android 3.x Honeycomb or later device. We have found that the MTP transfer required is slower than transfer over Wi-Fi.
Where are my audio files stored?
TuneSync™ copy the files to your SD Card. In the SD card, the music files are stored at /Music/TuneSync folder. The playlists are stored under /Music/Playlist. The playlists are automatically added to the default Android Music application. To see the playlists, open Music and click the playlists tab.
I never see my library name in the Host Computer setup screen.
Make sure TuneSync™ Server is installed. Verify your Android™ phone is connected to your Wi-Fi network by going to Settings -> Wireless & networks and verify it says "Connected to
Some Android devices (HTC Evo, HTC Incredible for example) have a Wi-Fi driver that blocks all broadcast packets to the phone. This prevents automatic discovery of your computer and library. Follow these instructions to setup your computer's IP Address manually:
Windows:
On your computer, Press the Windows key and R
Type in cmd and press enter
This should open a command line window
In this command line window, type:
Ipconfig
And press Enter
This will type out the IP Address (IPv4 Address) of your computer (Look for the like with numbers that start with 192.168 or 10.0)
Use the IP address and not the "Gateway" address
Open TuneSync on your Android phone
Go to "Host Computer"
Press Menu and select Manual Add
Type in the IP address you found above
Try to sync now
Mac OSX:
On the Mac go to System Preferences -> Network.
Select your active network port and your IP address will be listed under Status (Typically begins with 192.168 or 10.0).
Open TuneSync on your Android phone
Go to "Host Computer"
Press Menu and select Manual Add
Type in the IP addres
Will playlists sync with the Samsung Galixy / Vibrant / Epic phone?
Samsungs custom Music Player does not read the Android standard for playlists or read m3u playlist files. To see the actual playist, you will need to download a 3rd party music player.
Can I manually specify my computer name or IP address?
Go to Host Computer and tap the Menu button. Select "Manual Add". You can now enter your computer name or IP Address. If you have already selected a library using the discovery service, it will attempt to connect to it first. If it fails that connection, it will then try to use the computer name or IP Address.
How do I prevent my connection from dropping during a sync?
Make sure you device is within range of your Wi-Fi router. Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Wi-Fi Settings. Tap the Menu button and select Advanced. Change the Wi-Fi sleep policy to "Never". During long syncs, it is recommended to connect your device to the charger as Wi-Fi usage can be a drain on the battery.
Can I set a password to prevent unauthorized connections to my library?
You can enter a password (0000 by default) on the server. Make sure to match the password on TuneSync™ on your device. NOTE: TuneSync does not use a secure protocol and is only recommended for use on a secure Wi-Fi network.
I see sync starts but no files are copied.
TuneSync™ only copies new files. If playlist files have already been copied to the Android™ device, they are not copied again.
Start iTunes on the computer and make sure there are no iTunes messages (upgrade, etc). If iTunes is showing a dialog window, TuneSync™ is unable to ask it about the playlist files.
If no dialog is displayed, you may have encountered a rare iTunes bug where it does not properly register the programming interface that allows applications to control it. To resolve this exit out of iTunes, then re-install iTunes. This will typically resolve the issue. Advanced users can run "itunes.exe /regserver" from a command-line to force iTunes to re-register.
See troubleshooting for more information
The sync never starts
Make sure your Android™ phone is on your Wi-Fi network. Verify your SD card is installed on your Android™ device and is mounted.
This can be caused by a firewall or internet security software running on the PC. Do you have Norton Internet Security, ZoneAlarm, or other firewall software installed on your pc? If so, you will need to allow TuneSync™ inbound access to your computer. TuneSync™ use a open TCP port in the range of 9090 - 9120. You can view the port TuneSync™ Server is using by opening the Settings on the server.
If you do not have firewall software on your computer, go to Start->Control Panel->Windows Firewall (XP) or Start->Control Panel->Security->Windows Firewall (Vista) and make sure "Don't allow exceptions" is NOT checked.
How do I perform a wired sync?
Setup TuneSync™ and select the playlists to sync as described in the setup. Connect the Android™ device to the pc and select "Select to copy files to/from your computer" and click "Mount". TuneSync™ on the computer will start a sync. Wait till complete then on the Android™ device select "Turn off USB storage". TuneSync™ will now synchronize you songs.
Can I only use a wired sync without a Wi-Fi network?
TuneSync™ will work without a wireless connection. To perform a wired-only sync, install both the Android™ TuneSync™ client and the Windows or OSX server. On the Android device, check the "Enable Sync" and "Wired Sync" checkboxes. At this point you cannot select playlists yet. Connect the Android™ device to the pc and select "Select to copy files to/from your computer" and click "Mount". TuneSync™ on the computer will start a sync. Wait till complete then on the Android™ device select "Turn off USB storage". After a minute, go to TuneSync™ and go to "Playlists to sync" to select the playlists you want. Finally, connect the Android™ device to the pc again and select "Select to copy files to/from your computer" and click "Mount". TuneSync™ will now synchronize you songs.
Will TuneSync™ copy over my entire library or just some playlists?
You select the playlists to sync. You can sync your entire library or a few select playlists.
Do I need to connect my Android™ phone to my computer using the USB cable?
No. TuneSync™ will only sync your files over your Wi-Fi connection. Also, if you have your Android™ phone connected to the USB port on your PC and your SD card mounted as a drive, TuneSync™ cannot write to your SD card and will not sync until you unmount the card.
Will TuneSync™ sync copy protected (DRM) music files or audio books?
Since your Android™ device will not play copy protected music, it will not waste space on your SD card and will not copy these files.
You can make unprotected versions of these files by burning the song onto a CD and ripping (in iTunes) the song back into the computer.
Where are my Amazon MP3 files saved to?
On Windows machines, the MP3 files are saved to "My Music\amazonmp3" folder. If iTunes is in charge of organizing the library, once the file is added to iTunes, iTunes may move the file from here.
On Mac OS X, the MP3 files are saved to "Music/amazonmp3" under the current user's home directory.
Will TuneSync™ sync copy video files?
TuneSync™ will copy video files in a playlist that are not DRM-protected.
Will TuneSync™ sync audio books?
Apple audio books are in a m4b file format that Android™ OS cannot play. TuneSync™ will not sync audio books.
Can I force TuneSync™ Server to user a defined port
TuneSync™ can be forced to use a port instead of trying to open a certain port. On Windows, you will need to add a new registry key. Open regedit, add a new String Value key in the HKLU\Software\HighwindSoftware\TuneSync and set the key value to the port you want it to use.
I selected my pc but no playlists show
Go to "Test Connection" and make sure all steps show OK for status. After all steps show "OK", you should see your playlists in the "Playlists To Sync" option.
Will TuneSync™ work over the cellular data network?
This feature is not offically supported. To get this to work, you will want to setup a dynamic dns (DynDNS, no-ip) to point to your public IP. You will need to open the port to your computer through your router's firewall. Go to Host Computer and tap the Menu button. Select "Manual Add". You can now enter your dynamic dns. If you have already selected a library using the discovery service, it will attempt to connect to it first. If it fails that connection, it will then try to use the computer name or IP Address. You can ignore the "Connect to Wi-Fi" failed message on the "Test connection" screen. NOTE: TuneSync does not use a secure protocol and is only recommended for use on a secure Wi-Fi network.
